Takin’ Out the Trash

Every Tuesday is garbage day and I had brought the garbage out to the street early in the morning, and then went back into the house until the truck came. I was feeling a little sluggish as I was coming down with a cold and didn’t sleep very well the night before. So when I heard the horn of the truck, I went out to the street shutting the gate door behind me. Then I realized that I didn’t have my keys with me, they were still in the house. So there I was, standing outside with the garbage with no way to get back in. I figured I would ask my neighbor across the street, I was pretty sure he had a ladder, but the lady next door started talking with me and I missed my opportunity to ask him. So I decided to ask her. Well, I don’t know the Russian word for ladder, and she wasn’t really getting what I was trying to say, so that left me with one last option- to climb over my 8’wall. I turned my garbage can upside down and stood on that and jumped up and swung myself over the wall. Then my nice elderly neighbor lifted the garbage can up to me. I said “thank you” and felt like an idiot. Sometimes I would like to know just what my neighbors think of me.
